The lecture Tatuaż. Znacząc siebie will be devoted to the art of tattooing. Ethnographic and historical texts show that it was practiced in almost every human culture in historical times. Tattoos date back many thousands of years. In fact, we have strong evidence that they are an ancient art form. The oldest evidence of human tattoos is believed to date from 3370 BC to 3100 BC. Tattoos are permanent forms of body art that belong to many different cultures around the world. In Europe, they were not very common or socially acceptable until the mid-20th century. Until then, they were reserved for a small population, mostly in the entertainment industry. Fully tattooed people became a popular attraction in their own right. The introduction of an intimate and personal art form such as tattoos into museums, galleries, and auctions gives this practice new institutional legitimacy and a special kind of accessibility. For a long time, tattoos were experienced only by the artist and the person who wore them. But the art world is beginning to understand the special value of tattoos as aesthetic objects. More than beautiful designs, they remind us of the unique stories that can be told on human skin.
