Christian Death

Christian Death is an American gothic rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1979 by Rozz Williams. The band became a highly influential act, heralding the American gothic rock and deathrock movements. After the release of Christian Death's third album Ashes in 1985, Williams left the band and then-guitarist Valor Kand replaced him as the lead vocalist.

Founders of American goth rock Christian Death are known for their provocative lyrics that challenge organized religion and social norms. Their confrontational approach, full of blasphemy and morbidity, set them apart from the British goth scene and brought them closer to Los Angeles punk and heavy metal. Initially fronted by singer Rozz Williams, the band later took a more intellectual and political direction under guitarist Valor Kand.
