14th International Music Festival "Chopin and his Europe". "Independent" is the key word, which is unambiguously associated today with the overall programme of the Centennial of Independence celebrations. They are recalled in the title of the festival to point to the main programme outline, which in fact determines the shape of this year's edition. It is completed by two names: Chopin and Paderewski - two iconic figures for Polish culture. In 2018, these two artists will inspire us to reflect on the archaic wealth of Polish music, both during the partitions of the 19th century and in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Different forms, different genres: From songs and instrumental miniature, through well-known and unknown symphonic works and chamber music, to the leading opera The Year of Stanisław Moniuszko and the works of Palester and Panufnik; works commissioned from Krzysztof Penderecki and Agata Zubel will be performed for the first time. Traditionally, great masters of the piano - both contemporary and historical - will perform virtuosos of many other instruments, as well as numerous young people, including those selected at the Witold Lutosławski Cello Competition.
