Charlton was born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 1982. At the age of 17 he started chasing the early rave parties that took place all over Holland. Around 1999 his love for electronic music became an obsession, he started djing and discovered techno. In 2001 he started producing and developing his own sound. Driven by his studies in electronic music production at a prestigious institution in Holland, he initially began to compile his music into a live show, which debuted in 2004.
Charlton's inventive style combines old-time techno and his own gritty off-beat rhythms. With his hypnotizing basslines, Charlton's sound has been a major influence on the Dutch techno scene. His tracks have been released on labels such as Field Records, Audio Assault, Arms, Labrynth, Aftertaste and Puhjola. His first EP Slowdown Basterd rose to the top of the charts when it was released in August 2010. In addition, Black Song appeared on Norman Nordge's compilation Berghain 06.
