Carpenter Brut is the stage name of French musician Franck Hueso, who works in the genre of electronic music, particularly synthwave. He has been active since 2012. His work is often associated with elements of electronic rock, industrial, and 1980s film music. Carpenter Brut’s style is typically characterized by the use of analog synthesizers and a dark, retro-futuristic aesthetic.
He began his musical career with the release of a trilogy of EPs titled Trilogy, which came out between 2012 and 2015. This was followed by his first studio album, Leather Teeth, in 2017 and a second album, Leather Terror, in 2022, which thematically continued the previous work. Carpenter Brut has also composed music for video games and short films. He has collaborated with artists such as Perturbator, Gunship, and Ulver.
In addition to his studio work, he is active as a live performer, both independently and as part of music festivals. He performs with a backing band, and his concerts often include audiovisual elements that reflect the atmosphere of his music.
