Carmina Burana is based on medieval secular songs found in 1803 in Bavarian Benediktbeuren Abbey. Carl Orff chose 24 songs from this extensive collection of texts, created by vagabonds, students and itinerant clerics, and arranged them into a kind of libretto. The first part is songs that celebrate nature and the awakening of spring, the second is praise from Bacchus, and the third is about the pleasures of love. The motto of the whole piece is the apotheosis of life and the affirmation of the world. Only the consent to order and order in the macrocosm will allow man to keep his soul pure and live according to nature.
