The year 2020 has thwarted many cultural plans. Museums continue in the uncertainty of tomorrow. Closed to visitors, they serve art “online” and feel a great lack of direct contact with the audience. As a result, many exhibition projects that had been in the pipeline for months had to be “frozen”, postponed to an undefined future. This sense of suspension prompted the curators of the Four Domes Pavilion to take a look at the collections of their own museum. And so the idea of the exhibition BYpass: A Pandemic Exhibition was born.
BYpass is a presentation that is a kind of supplement to the permanent collection presented at the Four Domes Pavilion, showing a number of extremely interesting artistic phenomena and personalities that could not be shown as part of the main exhibition. The selection key is simple and based on the alphabet, i.e. from the letter A to Ż, and parity, i.e. works of artists representing various disciplines and trends have been chosen from the rich collection. This artistic panopticum seems to be very interesting and healing. In the selections, the curators have tried to maintain a balance between all disciplines and have chosen painting, sculpture, various forms of printmaking, photography, video art and installations.
