Béla Fleck
Béla Fleck is an American banjo player and composer.
He started playing the banjo in 1973, when he was fifteen years old. He released his first solo album, Crossing the Tracks, in 1979. From 1981–1989 and again in 1996 he was a member of New Grass Revival and since 1988 he has had his own band, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. He has also collaborated with other musicians including Chick Corea, Rory Gallagher, McCoy Tyner, Jorma Kaukonen and the band Phish. His birth name, Béla Anton Leoš Fleck, is based on the names of several world composers, including the Hungarian Béla Bartók, the Austrian Anton Webern and the Czech Leoš Janáček.
In 2024, he put out an album with Chick Corea called Remembrance.
