Basilica of St. Ludmila

The Basilica of Saint Ludmila is a Roman Catholic parish church on náměstí Míru in the Vinohrady district of Prague 2. The typical neo-Gothic building was built at the end of the 19th century in honour of Saint Princess Ludmilla. It is one of the youngest churches in Prague 2 (after the Church of the Sacred Heart of the Lord) and one of the largest.

Originally a small village, Královské Vinohrady was promoted to a town in 1879 and the growing number of Roman Catholic inhabitants necessitated the construction of a new parish church. The urban concept of Vinohrady envisaged three main public buildings in the central square (church, theatre and national community centre), with a site chosen for the church on the axis of the main west-east road in the centre of the square. The architect Josef Mocker was commissioned to draw up the plans.

In August 2022, the church was elevated to a minor basilica by a decision of Pope Francis.
