Barbara Thalheim is the most famous songwriter of the GDR besides Bettina Wegner. She released more than 20 vinyls, CDs, DVDs as well as two books. In the 80s she organized Konstantin Wecker's first concert in the GDR on the island Usedom. Furthermore, she was the initiator of Hermann van Veen's DT 64 concert at Palast der Republik in 1981. In 1991, Barbara Thalheim opened the Vienna Festival with her song Auferstanden aus den Dogmen in front of 20.000 spectators.

After the wall fell, Barbara Thalheim went to Paris for a while to experience Germany – her Germany – from the outside. She came back with the program Fremdgehen and received the German Record Critics' Award for the CD with the same name which she had recorded together with Jean Pacalet.

She also was awarded with the prize Coup du Coeur in Paris for the CD Faire de ma grande Gueule with her own songs in French language.

Her songs deal again and again with the individual that refuses the mainstream consciously.

Since 17 years, Barbara Thalheim has been working together with a highly creative trio of profound jazz musicians. Musicians which search for the best way to implement the songs in music: Topo Gioia playing percussion, Felix-Otto Jacobi at the double bass and Rüdiger Krause at the guitar.
