Avril Lavigne is a Canadian-French rock and pop singer, guitarist, songwriter, actress and designer, who is also a producer of some of her songs. At the age of 16 she signed a record deal with Arista and moved to New York. Due to differences with the label, Lavigne then moved from New York to Los Angeles. There she met producer Clif Magness, with whom she recorded the album Let Go. At the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, Lavigne was named Best New Artist. At the 2003 Juno Awards, she was nominated in six categories and won four Junos. Furthermore, she was nominated for eight Grammys.
Her second album Under My Skin was released in 2004 and reached top positions in the album charts around the world. Lavigne also participated in the second album of the American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. She wrote the title song of the album Breakaway, which became a big hit in the United States. Her third studio album The Best Damn Thing, which also includes Keep Holding On from the Eragon soundtrack, was released in early 2007. For her fourth album Goodbye Lullaby, Avril Lavigne collaborated with her ex-husband Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 and Butch Walker. It was released in March 2011 after several postponements of the release date. In October 2011, Lavigne confirmed her move to the Epic Records label. Her fifth self-titled album was released there in late 2013. Her latest studio album Head Above Water was released in 2019.
