The year is 50 BC. The Empress of China is imprisoned as a result of a coup d'état by a treacherous prince. The kidnapped ruler's daughter, Princess Sass-Yi, together with her faithful bodyguard and a Phoenician merchant, travels to distant Gaul to seek help for her country. This is how she meets Asterix and Obelix, two brave heroes who will stop at nothing to bring order where there is chaos and lawlessness—or some fine food. The Gauls gladly agree to the princess's request and, together with her friends and an adequate supply of the magic drink, set off on a long and adventurous journey to the Far East. However, the famous enemy of Asterix and Obelix, Julius Caesar, is also keeping an eye on all this and is eager for new conquests, gathering a powerful army to conquer the oriental land on the other side of the globe.
