Tama Sumo

Tama Sumo started DJing at a bar called Drama in Kreuzberg, which was an important venue for the scene and one of the first bars to have its own DJs on weekends. Drama was one of the few locations where house music was played instead of techno, which dominated the club and bar scene at the time.

She played a lot of soulful vocal house and soon became a resident at Globus / Tresor, as well as at the gay Saturdays at Café Moskau. Since 1997, when she became a resident at the Globus / Tresor, she opened up to other styles and no longer felt she belonged to one of the sides of the techno and house divide.

Since 2001 she played regularly at the gay and lesbian Dance with the Aliens parties at the old Ostgut, and following that at the end of 2004 she became a resident of the new Berghain. In the meantime she had developed a versatile style, ranging from new and classic house to techno and also disco, afrobeats.
