Light Asylum

Light Asylum is the dark, electronic project of founder, vocalist, producer and multidisciplinary performance artist Shannon Funchess. She discovered her penchant for singing at a young age in a Southern Baptist church and developed her powerful alto voice in junior and high school choirs, vocal ensembles, post-punk and indie bands, citing Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Grace Jones, Nina Simone, Nina Hagen, Depeche Mode and Diamanda Galás among her influences.

In 2010, the self-released debut EP In Tension with the singles Dark Allies and A Certain Person was re-released on limited edition CDRs and cassettes. The group's self-titled debut album followed in May 2012.
