About Aida Garifullina
Russian soprano Aida Garifullina is currently a regular soloist with the Vienna State Opera and holder of the title ‘Best Russian Female Opera Performer’. She studied voice at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and debuted, at the invitation of Valery Gergiev, in the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg where she also appeared in the role of Natasha in War and Peace. She enthralled the audience in the famous Arena in Verona, Italy, where she won first prize in Plácido Domingo’s international ‘Operalia’ competition. She gives solo recitals as well, having scored a major success in London’s Wigmore Hall. In the 2016/17 season she is returning to the Vienna stage for L’elisir d’amore and Rigoletto as well as in the lead female role in Roméo et Juliette conducted by Placido Domingo, while also appearing in the title role in a new production by Dmitri Tcherniakov of The Snow Maiden at the Opéra de Paris.
