Ars Cameralis 2020: Caterina Barbieri & Ruben Spini

The processes of human perception and memory are often influenced by different states of consciousness, achieved through music and images. In the project Time-blind Caterina Barbieri and Ruben Spini create an extraordinary sound and visual symbiosis. The landscapes created by Spini are breathtaking. The impression is complemented and amplified by the intricate musical maneuvers of Barbieri. With the help of modular instruments, the composer, in her characteristic configuration, creates phenomenal, hypnotic pieces. Using scientific sequencing techniques, Barbieri spells reality and conjures up deep, electroacoustic panoramas.

Intense lighting, fog, space photographs and other enigmatic images created by Spini represent a barren world that seems almost hostile to life. This inexorable, austere landscape is at the same time intertwined with Barbieri's spherical and subtle, ambient music. The clash of these planes is an extraordinary experience, incomparable to anything else - to feel, hear and see live how the artist masters her monophonic instruments overgrown by the jungle of cables, using them to create songs with a classical structure, while at the same time creating a new and so absorbing sound reality.
