Army of Darkness* (1992) concludes the Evil Dead trilogy as a horror comedy with fantasy elements, in which the protagonist finds himself in the Middle Ages and must face a supernatural threat.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Army of Darkness follows the previous films Evil Dead and Evil Dead II. The main character Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) finds himself in the past after the events of the previous installment, where he is confronted with a medieval world, magic and an army of the undead. His mission is to find the Necronomicon, the so-called Book of the Dead, so that he can return to his own time.

The film is characterized by its distinctive stylization, its combination of horror and grotesque elements, its exaggeration and its strong visual concept. Ash Williams definitively profiles himself here as an ironic and self-aware anti-hero, contributing to his status as a cult figure within the genre. Armada of Darkness appeals to audiences looking for unconventional genre fusion and appreciating dark humour and distinctive auteur direction.
