Archiwum Galerii Zderzak

The gallery was founded in 1985 in Krakow as a private, independent cultural institution. Exhibitions were held in the attic of a private property, with an old car bumper hanging over the door—hence the name, Zderzak, which is Polish for car bumper. The gallery operated outside the censorship, in opposition to both the official circulation of art controlled by the communist regime of the time and the second circulation branded by the Catholic Church. The signs of the gallery's independent stance are its name and logo. Zderzak has been a commercial gallery since 1989.
