Archeological Museum in Poznań
The Museum of Archaeology in Poznań has been in existence for more than 160 years. The museum is housed in a Renaissance palace, the urban residence of the Górka family, dating from the 40s of the 16th century, with a preserved early Renaissance portal and an inner courtyard with a column cloister. It is here that the famous and unique in this part of Europe obelisk of Ramses II is located, and here you can also see a real Egyptian mummy, the famous oxen from Bytyń and many other interesting monuments from Wielkopolska and Africa. Research in Wielkopolska and Africa are the main profiles of the Museum's activities. It also does not forget about the archaeology of Poznan, initiating and participating in many projects important for the study of the early city. They are a museum institution, oriented towards contact with a wide and demanding public, disseminating the achievements of science and popularising knowledge about the past.
