Araki & Tsujimura: Na granicy cienia

It is difficult to find two equally individual, controversial and deeply Japanese artists in their work. Nobuyoshi Araki's loud and monumental activity has set trends and pushed the boundaries in world photography. Shiro Tsujimura, in the circle of Japanese ceramics considered to be a rebel and revolutionary, through his unique and subdued style has broken through to the reality of contemporary art. In addition to titanic productivity and uncompromising work "on their own terms", the creators combine precise reaching for specific ethical and aesthetic patterns of Zen tradition. This seemingly contrasting juxtaposition of the two most outstanding Japanese artists in their respective fields will be the essence of the exhibition presented from May 12th to October 25th, 2020 at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in Krakow.

Eighty photographs from eight series by Araki created between 1972 and 2008 will be installed in the minimalist spaces of the Europe - Far East Gallery. The nostalgic, motionless frames from the artist's beloved Tokyo in large and small enlargements will allow you to see, as if through a window or a keyhole, an intimate world captured in a unique moment. The wide thematic spectrum of Araki's work will be complemented by "taken out of the shadows" studied, soft forms of tangled Kinbaku's bodies, scratched out on film in a strong gesture nude Obscenities and juicy in colour previously painted and then documented decadent floral compositions.
