AfryKamera 2020
The first festival in Central and Eastern Europe presenting the achievements of African cinematography. Its first edition was organized in 2006 together with the Embassy of South Africa, with the great support of the then Ambassador, Febe Potgieter Gqubule. An extraordinary friend of AfricaKamera was Abdulcadir Gabeire Farah, the founder and long-time president of the Foundation for Somalia.
The aim of the festival is to show the film achievements of African artists. Contrary to stereotypes, Africa is not a film desert - on the contrary, it makes an outstanding contribution to the world's cinematography. This year's festival will cross the whole continent: Ivory Coast, Algeria, Senegal, Sudan, Gambia, Central African Republic, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo and more.
This year's film program of the festival includes a block of documentary films about dance in Africa Africa Moving and a block of Chinafrica, i.e. films that deal with the issue of Chinese influence on African countries. Moreover, during the festival there will be screenings of short films, organized in cooperation with the Mashariki African Film Festival in Rwanda, which, like a lens, show the social and cultural changes in Rwanda. This year the organizers invite viewers to the Land of a Thousand Hills - Rwanda and nearby Burundi. Both countries are mainly associated with conflicts between Tutsi and Hutu, which culminated in the tragic genocide of April 1994. This year's edition of the festival will open with a film directed by Atiq Rahimi, Notre-Dame du Nil, winner of the 14plus Young Generation Jury Award at this year's festival in Berlin. The program also includes the film Moffie, warmly received at last year's International Film Festival in Venice. The film is set in 1981 in South Africa and tells the story of a homosexual teenager ending his compulsory military service in the South African Defense Forces on the border with Angola.
