Zespół Muzyki Dawnej Musarion
The Musarion Early Music Ensemble was founded in 2017 as an expression of interest and exploration in the performance and promotion of early music. The ensemble's premise is to perform Baroque music according to the most up-to-date knowledge of historical performance practices, as well as to present music in the context of other arts, such as dance, painting and literature. The ensemble's repertoire covers various areas and styles of music of the 17th and 18th centuries, from chamber pieces to large vocal-instrumental works, performing the best-known Baroque compositions (such as The Four Seasons by A. Vivaldi), but also promoting lesser-known works. The musicians strive to interpret as faithfully as possible in accordance with historical practice, but making it as fresh and attractive as possible for contemporary listeners.
The ensemble is composed of musicians playing original instruments from the period or their faithful copies, who are graduates of leading European early music academies (e.g. Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel in Switzerland, Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen in Germany, Koninklijk Conservatorium in the Hague in the Netherlands). The instrumentalists also collaborate on a daily basis with many recognised and renowned orchestras and ensembles performing early music both at home and abroad. They are also involved in pedagogical activities, educating future students in the field of playing historical instruments. Artistic direction is provided by the ensemble's founder – Judyta Tupczyńska. Musarion's repertoire includes instrumental and vocal-instrumental works of the Baroque era. The aim of the ensemble is to present early music in accordance with the requirements of the historical style of performance. In their concert activity, they pay great attention to promoting the works of early Polish composers, including those newly discovered, whose works are still little known to the wider audience. The ensemble's achievements include two large, multi-part projects: Sacrum/ Profanum. Two Faces of Antonio Vivaldi (Sacrum/ Profanum. Dwa oblicza Antonia Vivaldiego) and Bach vs. Händel or the Meeting that Never Was (Bach vs. Händel czyli spotkanie, którego nie było). The Musarion Early Music Ensemble is an organisational unit of the Ars Chori Foundation. The artistic director is Judyta Tupczyńska.
