The play begins as Hillary (Kenneth's ex-wife) is preparing a dinner to celebrate Kenneth and Laura's three-year wedding anniversary. The main course is to be a "surprise". In flashbacks, the viewer learns about all the events that preceded this "last supper".

Kenneth and Hillary lived in a happy marriage - for almost twenty years, until Kenneth (styling himself as Elvis Presley and going through a mid-life crisis) fell in love with another woman. At first, Laura seemed to embody everything Kenneth was missing in his marriage, but soon the love affair gets out of hand and a carousel of lies, excuses and accusations ensues. Soon Kenneth is forced to confess to his wife and move in with his lover Laura.
