After Balzac's Lost Illusions, tribal director Jan Mikulášek presents another adaptation of the great literary masterpiece. Resurrection is Tolstoy's last novel and the novel that most clearly points to the present. It begins in 19th-century Moscow and ends in timelessness, placelessness, nothingness. There they are all gathered: the misunderstood, the spat out, the fighters for justice. Revolution and resistance, passion, wisdom, disease and utopia find their last refuge here among the barking dogs.
This sweeping work by the great Russian writer masterfully captures the social atmosphere of late 19th-century Tsarist Russia while following a powerful love story. On the Balustrade will be performed in a theatrical adaptation by German playwright and director Armin Petras and translated by Petr Stedron.
