Molesta Ewenement

Warsaw's Molesta Ewenement – also billed as Mistic Molesta and Molesta – were a pioneering presence in Polish hip-hop, helping spearhead the genre's road to the mainstream and recording some of its most celebrated and referenced tracks. Founded in 1995 by rappers Vienio and Włodi – soon joined by fellow MC Kaczy – they debuted with 1998's Skandal, considered a watershed moment for the country's scene. The album painted a vivid picture of life in Warsaw's Ursynów council estate, alternating between conscious bars on poverty and police brutality and celebrations of quotidian, blunt-in-hand chill-out, while espousing an ethos of positivity and hood solidarity.

After Skandal, Kaczy left the group, leaving Vienio and Włodi to record the follow-up Ewenement as a duo; 2000's Taka płyta… saw long-time collaborators Pelson and Wilku join as permanent members. After a period of work on other projects, the quartet's fourth album Nigdy nie mów nigdy was released in 2006, signed as Molesta Ewenement. In 2007, Wilku left Molesta for Hemp Gru; the remaining trio released the guest-heavy Molesta i kumple a year later and have since strayed from the studio, while remaining a prolific live act.
