Lonnie Holley

Lonnie Bradley Holley, sometimes known as The Sand Man is an African-American artist, art educator, and musician. He was born the seventh of 27 children during the Jim Crow era and claims to have been traded for a bottle of whiskey when he was four. He grew up to become a visual artist as well as a musician who performs solo, but also collaborates with a variety of other musicians and artists, including on recordings. Holley has toured with Deerhunter, Bill Callahan and Daniel Lanois.
