Kayo Dot

The endlessly eclectic avant-metal project Kayo Dot is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Toby Driver, formerly associated with the band Maudlin of the Well. Since their debut in 2003, they have fused influences ranging from black metal to jazz to contemporary chamber music in various configurations; sometimes, as on Gamma Knife (2012) turning more towards heavy and noisy roots, sometimes (2010's Coyote) into Scott Walker-esque gothic, and sometimes in completely unexpected directions, like the darkwave-meets-jazz fusion Coffins on Io (2014). They have 10 studio albums to their credit, the most recent of which is 2021's Moss Grew on the Swords and Plowshares Alike; initially signed to John Zorn's cult Tzadik imprint, they have also released music on Hydra Head (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Sunn O, Neurosis) or The Flenser (Have a Nice Life, Botanist, Deafheaven).
