Jonathan Bree

The New Zealand singer-songwriter Jonathan Bree began his career as one half of the twee pop group The Brunettes, whose career included a record on Sub Pop. After the duo broke up, he produced a record by long-time collaborator Princess Chelsea, with whom he recorded the 2010s indie classic The Cigarette Duet; following the success of this collaboration, he embarked on a solo career. Bree and his backing band perform styled as a 1960s boy band with their faces covered in spandex masks. To date, he has released five solo albums, the most recent being 2023's Pre-Code Hollywood, which featured a collaboration with Nile Rodgers.
