Glen Hansard

The singer-songwriter and actor Glen Hansard has been active in the Irish rock scene since 1990 as the leader of the folk rock band The Frames. Since the mid-2000s, he also collaborated with Czech musician Markéta Irglová as The Swell Season; the duo rose to global prominence following the success of the 2007 film Once, in which they starred as fictionalized versions of themselves and to which they provided music, including the Oscar-winning track Falling Slowly. Hansard's musical style is firmly rooted in the singer-songwriter tradition, embellishing influences from Van Morrison and Bob Dylan with an uniquely candid sentimentality. He has released five solo albums, the latest of which is 2023's All That Was East Is West of Me Now; he's also performed with the likes of Eddie Vedder and Ed Sheeran.
