Takuya Nakamura

Japanese artist, composer and multi-instrumentalist. From few decades perform all over the world mainly playing the piano, various electronic instruments and trumpet. He was born in a musical family in Tokyo. He started appearing at a very young age. After graduating from the Kunitachi Academy of Music and Tokyo, Takuya Nakamura moved to Boston to study under George Russell at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he earned a master's degree in composition and jazz. At the side of Paul Blay and Gerri Allen, he studied piano and improvisation, and studied the trumpet with Tim Morrison (Boston Symphony Orchestra). During this time, he also performed at festivals in Boston with John Cage (1991) and György Ligetim (1992). Interested in harmony Takuya became acquainted with the chromatic concept of Lydyan authored by Geroge Russell, as well as the theories of Toru Takemitsu, Miles Davis and Bill Evans. Takuya performed before Sun Ra Arkestra, other performances in this period included projects with Steve Drully (Experimental Contemporary Music) and John Zorn (Cobra) in Knitting Factory in New York. In the USA Takuya also gave concerts with George Russell's Living Time orchestra. His recent global routes include collaboration with CocoRosa, the Nerve Jojo Mayer team, and studio projects including remixes for Quincy Jones.
