Stefano Bollani

Stefano Bollani is a star of European jazz, a virtuoso of the Italian piano. He weaves a variety of styles into his improvised fantasies. He was already considered Europe's best jazzman in 2007 as the winner of the Hans Koller European Jazz Prize. In recognition of his services, he received an honorary doctorate from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. As a soloist he plays with symphony orchestras such as La Scala in Milan, Orchestre National de Paris, Gewandhaus in Leipzig under the baton of outstanding conductors. He writes books and realizes many theatre and film projects. He collaborates with the world's leading jazzmen, such as Chick Corea (the famous piano duet is the sixth project in his career), Pat Metheny, Richard Galliano, Enrico Rava.

Stefano Bollani, born in Milan on 5 December 1972, began playing the piano at the age of six and graduated from the Cherubini Conservatory in Florence in 1993. A breakthrough in his activity turned out to be the meeting in 1996 with his mentor and master, now a friend – Enrico Rava. Together, the musicians have given hundreds of concerts all over the world and recorded thirteen critically acclaimed and awarded albums. The artist is always looking for inspiration. He most eagerly draws from the present by improvising with such eminent masters as Chick Corea, Gato Barbieri, Pat Metheny, Richard Galliano, Paolo Frescu, Bill Frisell, Paul Motian and Hamilton de Holanda. The same searching spirit accompanies him when he plays with symphony orchestras such as La Scala in Milan and Orchestre National de Paris, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, performing under the baton of such conductors as Riccardo Chailly, Krjstian Jarvi, Daniel Harding. He has received numerous awards for his albums, including: O Que sera, named one of the best albums by the American magazine DownBeat and the Italian JazzIt, the best album Gleda Songs from Scandinavia recorded in New York (Jesper Bodilsen, Morten Lund, Mark Turner and Bill Frisel) according to Musica Jazz.
