Spineless Actress
Spineless Actress is Michelle Olczak—a producer, vocalist and saxophonist associated with Warsaw's improvised music scene. They began their publishing career under her own name with the album Ethereal in 2017; they gained wider acclaim with their somophore effort Zgubiłem się, which combined absorbing soundscapes with non-obvious harmonies and digitally manipulated wind instrument sounds, walking the tightrope between abstractions of free jazz and hyper-contemporary progressive electronic. The Spineless Actress project is an application of these sounds in the context of songs, creating a sonic image of gender dysphoria and isolation; the first EP under this name, Before Shape, was released by the Neuropasza label in 2022.
