The adaptation of the novel by Sholem Aleichem tells the story of a Jewish family, exiled by tsarist officers from Anatewka village. The main character is a poor milker Tevye, who dreamt of wealth and bargained with God. The Wrocław staging of this world's most famous musical is traditional, close to Broadway's original - it preserves what is most important in this work, adding what the viewer expects.
In Anatevka, reconstructed with reverence and maintained in Chagall's mood, the protagonist is the collective. The director resuscitates a world that no longer exists, swept away by the history of a Jewish village from the early 20th century.
