Riccardo La Foresta

Riccardo La Foresta is an Italian drummer, percussionist and creator of a playing system called Drummophone. He composes, improvises, creates performances and deals with sound art. In his free jazz and experimental works he explores the tonal possibilities of percussion materials. His explorations have led to La Forresta being able to play the drums as if he were using a wind instrument. He produces surprising sounds from the membranes: acoustic drones, primal melodies and complex, multidimensional beats. A great showcase of the artist is a recording on youtube with the telling title "Playing drums without playing".
