Prague Philharmonia
Prague Philharmonia was founded in 1994 on the initiative of the world-famous conductor Jiří Bělohlávek, under the original name of the Prague Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, to bring a fresh air of infectious musical vigour and the desire to excel in the smallest detail of the music performed to the Czech and then worldwide environment. Soon after its formation it joined the circle of respected orchestras of the Czech Republic and built an excellent reputation in Europe and the world.
The core of the orchestra's repertoire remains the music of Viennese Classicism, expanded to include Romantic, 20th and 21st century works. Among Czech composers, the orchestra has found itself especially in the works of Bohuslav Martinů. The orchestra also devotes a great deal of space to contemporary music, where it likes to premiere commissioned works. From this impulse, a special, unconventional cycle called Cycle of Contemporary Music (S) was created. PKF – Prague Philharmonia is also a pioneer in the field of children's educational programmes and concerts in the Czech Republic. It takes great care to ensure that the programmes are appropriate to the age and communication style of young visitors.
