Polmuz
The Polmuz ensemble was established by saxophonist Michał Fetler (Jazzband Młynarski Masecki, Tsigunz Fanfara Avantura) as part of an artistic residency at the Zamek Cultural Centre in Poznań, in order to perform modern, original interpretations of folk music from the Wielkopolska region of Poland. The starting point for the project were archival recordings contained on shellac discs from field recordings made in 1920s and 1930s. These recordings were treated as source material for developing the narrative of freely improvised, open-ended compositions. The ensemble is made of musicians who represent a wide range of currents—from modern jazz, world music and folk, through contemporary classical, electroacoustic music and free improvisation, to noise and hardcore punk. The first Polmuz album, Drzewiej, was released in 2018.
