Ostravská banda
The orchestra Ostravská banda orchestra was founded in 2005 as the resident chamber orchestra of Ostrava Days.
The members of the orchestra are young instrumentalists from Europe and the USA who focus on the interpretation of contemporary music. In addition to the orchestra's artistic director Petr Kotík, conductors Roland Kluttig, Johannes Kalitzke and Ondřej Vrabec cooperate with the Ostrava Band. Ostravská banda’s repertoire consists of key works of the 20th century (John Cage, Morton Feldman, György Ligeti, Luigi Nono, Edgard Varése, Iannis Xenakis, etc.) and compositions by contemporary composers (Louis Andriessen, Elliot Carter, Petr Kotík, Alvin Lucier, Tristan Murail, Phill Niblock, Salvatore Sciarrino, Wolfgang Rihm, Martin Smolka, Miroslav Srnka, Peter Graham, Petr Bakla or Christian Wolff).
Ostravská banda also performs at individual concerts. Key concerts include programmes at the Paris Conservatory, Carnegie Hall or Lincoln Center in New York, Akademie der Künste in Berlin, Vredenburg Music Centre in Utrecht, Prague Spring or Musicadhoy festivals in Madrid or Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Since 2012, Ostrava Banda has performed as an opera orchestra in the opera biennial of the NODO festival, which was created in cooperation between the Ostrava New Music Centre and the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre.
