Orkiestra Świętego Mikołaja

Existing since 1988, Orkiestra Świętego Mikołaja is one of the most important and pioneering bands on the Polish folk scene. Over their three decades of existence, they have created more than ten albums. Their work also consists of a variety of source material from which they draw inspiration. This can be heard both in the songs themselves, which refer to widely understood Polish tradition, including folk songs from the area of the Lublin, Podhale and Małopolska regions, as well as in compositions alluding to a broader stylistic spectrum, in which the Hutsul and Lemko elements dominate. Their diversity of style also manifests itself in the wide range of sounds used; on their recordings, one can hear a feast of sound colours, realised on instruments as diverse as dulcimer, nyckelharpa, shepherd's pipes and mandola, koboz or dutar.
