Neptunian Maximalism

Formed in 2018, the Belgian collective Neptunian Maximalism lives up to its name. A line-up fluctuating between a few and a dozen members, a monumental sound led by a multi-person rhythm section, baritone guitar and reeds, influenced by drone metal, Zeuhl, tribal rhythms and free jazz, and finally unbridled conceptualism—as critic Bartek Chaciński put it, they are only interested in what's largest. No wonder, then, that their debut full-length album Éons (2020) is over two hours long, conceptually spans entire geological eras and sounds like a cross between Alice Coltrane and heavy industry. In addition to it, they have already released six live albums and an EP.
