Muscle Worship
Putting the borderline legendary Kansas band Müscle Wörship into genre boxes feels inappropriate. Formed in 2009, the outfit were clear forerunners of today's non-idiomatic experimental rock, with their sound putting angular early post-punk guitar work into structures that recall California emo bands like Tera Melos or Pinback and spicing the resulting mix with a healthy dose of pop songwriting and haze reminiscent of their shoegaze revival contemporaries like Ovlov and Candy Claws. Müscle Wörship debuted in 2011 with the 7" Psychonaut's Prayer; two years later, their self-titled debut album was released, and the went on extended hiatus after touring in support of the critically lauded LP. After nearly a decade of inactivity, they reunited in 2023.
