Mono
Japanese post-rock band Mono formed in 1999, at first taking inspiration from the American independent scene of the 1990s, in particular bands like Sonic Youth and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. They released their first albums on John Zorn's Tzadik Records, collaborated with Aki Onda and their music was produced by Steve Albini. As time went on, Mono curbed their avant-garde tendencies and focused on creating cinematic soundscapes, full of sentimental string motifs, Japanese-style airy harmony and cathartic moments.
