Moh! Kouyaté
Moh! Kouyaté is a citizen of the world, a musician with Paris at heart. Moh! Kouyaté shares his own vision of a new Africa. Always elegant, with a charming appeal, he embodies a unique style of guitar playing inspired by the Mandingo tradition, blues, jazz and rock, and an extraordinary talent. Moh! Kouyaté was a musician long before the release of his first album Loundo. His Guinean relatives were deeply involved in the Conakry music scene. Learning music has always been sacred to Kouyaté's family, descendants of a griot dynasty dating back to the 13th century. Moh!'s grandmother bought him his first traditional guitar at a local market.
Moh! instinctively followed the masters of Guinean music: members of the Bembeya Jazz band, as well as Ousmane Kouyaté, Salif Keita's lead guitarist. In just a few years, Moh! has earned a reputation as one of Guinea's most talented and promising guitarists. He draws inspiration from the techniques of the great masters: Django Reinhardt, Santana, BB King, Ben Harper, Jimi Hendrix. At night, Moh! lit up the stages of Guinea's capital with his band Conakry Cocktail. The band's fresh and original musical style clearly referred to the work of Joe Zawinul. In 2004, Moh! met bluesman Corey Harris, and a year later they did a three-month tour of the USA. And although the source of the blues is in West Africa, Moh! was able to discover its tributaries: the Mississippi Delta and its brilliant guitarists. In 2007, Moh! settled in France and discovered Parisian musicians of the Afro-jazz scene. As a member of a quartet, he began performing in cafes and concert halls in Paris and throughout Europe.
In 2015, among many other artistic projects, he started working on his first album, Loundo, which is a rich compilation of all his artistic experiences and includes such wonderful and electrifying titles as T'en vas pas, ça va pas! -composed for friends going through difficult times. 2017 saw the release of his second album Fé Toki, a fusion of music inspired by the African continent and music from around the world. The art of the continent he draws from in his songs is connected to the whole world. His music is a gift that carries universal content.
