Mercyful Fate
Mercyful Fate is a metal band formed in Copenhagen at the beginning of the 80's, which on the one hand paved the way for Metalica and Slayer, and for Morbid Angel and Emperor on the other. However, even though so many bands were influenced by Mercyful Fate, nobody came close to copying the fragile balance between the power of Hank Shermann's guitar riffs and the vocal bravado and theatrical stamina of King Diamond. Melissa and Don't Break the Oath remain unrivalled models of music in the service of darkness to this day, although none of the later albums of this metal legend is outshined by it.
