Maciej Balcar
A native of Ostrów Wielkopolski, singer Maciej Balcar has led a two-track career for several decades. On one hand, he has been a prolific member of the mainstream Polish rock scene, starting his solo career in the late 1990s and working with the likes Varius Manx or Mateusz Pospieszalski—until 2001, when he became the permanent vocalist of the iconic blues-rock outfit Dżem, which he still is. On the other hand, Balcar has also had a rich career in musical theatre, most notably at the Teatr Rozrywki in Chorzów, where he played leading roles in productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Rent. Balcar has released six solo albums since 1998, musically standing somewhere between the two traditions; his most recent release is 2019's Struś.
