Loes
Loes is a Czech-Dutch music project led by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Loes van Schaijk. The project is active mainly on the Czech acoustic music scene, combining elements of folk, pop, and bluegrass. It follows the earlier work of the band Loes & The Acoustic Engineers, with whom van Schaijk performed in the years after 2020.
Loes van Schaijk comes from the Netherlands and has been active on the European music scene since 2005 as a vocalist, double bass player, and guitarist. She previously performed with the bands Waterflow, Lucy & The Man, and Red Herring. After relocating to the Czech Republic, she began creating original material that blends English, Czech, and Dutch lyrics. The style of the Loes project is described as chamber folk pop or Europicana—a European interpretation of Americana with acoustic instrumentation.
In 2021, the band won the Porta music competition, and in 2022, it also received first place in the international competition Interporta. The single Princezna released in the same year, stayed in the Czech Twelve radio chart of Czech Radio for twelve consecutive weeks, earning the Golden Twelve award. The project’s repertoire features original songs that incorporate elements of folk, bluegrass, pop, and Irish music.
