Petr Dvorský

Petr Dvorský graduated from the Jaroslav Ježek Jazz Conservatory in Prague and studied classical double bass privately with Professor Jan Kment, Professor Václav Fuka and Professor Jiří Valenta. He entered the Czech jazz scene as a member of the debuting quartet The Four with Karel Růžička Jr., Stanislav Macha and Jiří Slavíček, which won the international competition of the Karlovy Vary Jazz Festival in 1990. In 1992, he won second place with the Pavel Wlosok Trio at the Jazz Juniors international competition festival in Krakow, Poland.

Since then, he has collaborated with many leading Czech and international jazz musicians such as Sandy Lomax, Mark Vinci, Steve Lacy, Steve Houben, Juraj Bartos, Gabriel Jonáš, Matúš Jakabčic, Karel Růžička, Emil Viklicky, Eva Olmerová, Ingrid Jensen, Štepán Markovič, Luboš Andršt, Markus Printup, Najponek and others. For several years in a row he has been nominated in the Czech Jazz Society's Talent of the Year poll. In 2004–2013 he was a member of the Czech Radio Big Band. With the trio of Emil Viklicky he accompanied the legendary hardbop saxophonist Lew Tabakin.

Petr Dvorský currently plays with the Emil Viklický Trio and Quartet, Adam Tvrdý Trio, Concept Art Orchestra, Rajnosek B.and and Petr Beneš Quartet. Among international projects, we can mention his permanent collaboration with Walter Fischbacher, with whom he collaborates on his solo projects and with whom he often accompanies many excellent soloists such as Alita Moses, Femi Temowo, Audrey Martell and Marianne Solivan. In 2017 he performed with the trio Emil Viklicky feat. Ermie Adams at Chicago's Metropolis Perfoming Arts Center. From 1999–2003 he was editor of the jazz magazine JAM and from 2004–2005 he was director of the Letní jazzová dílna in Prague. He teaches double bass privately.
