Kink Gong

Laurent Jeanneau's own project, a musician and self-proclaimed ethnographer who has been travelling through Southeast Asia for over 18 years, documenting the disappearing musical traditions of ethnic minorities. Jeanneau collects and compiles unedited material into a growing archive of sounds and images. Fragments of his archival collections, enriched with contemporary electronic tissue, are published by the cult American label Sublime Frequencies and the British publishing house Discrepant. Field recordings, capturing mainly vocal and percussion art, are a starting point for Jeanneau's own, emotionally charged electronic experiments and sound compositions, which are then extended by other field recordings. His compositions are peculiar collages in which traditions from different corners of Asia are permeated through the prism of the artist's sensitivity and his subjective experiences, intertwine into a new, contemporary statement.
