Jules Collet: Modern Mythologies
Jules Collet is a passionate traveller enchanted by the art of past eras and different cultures, and a collector of discarded objects and toys. From the refuse of consumption, he creates peculiar narrative weavings that convey the truth about the emotional condition of our times. He also processes images from fashion or travel magazines that flood our consciousness. She combines splatters of modernity with a wealth of references to world history. By dressing forgotten archetypes in new costumes, she reveals contemporary mythologies. The professionally insensitive faces of models, fragments of exotic animals, plastic figures of Disney characters shattered in a fit of childish rage or bitten by pets, are put under the paper cutter or secateurs for larger forms. Juxtaposed anew in the exhibition, they form surprising, synthetic figurations.
