The concert by Spanish pianist Javier Perianes will feature masterpieces by Fryderyk Chopin and Spanish composers from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Perianes will perform Chopin's Nocturnes, Mazurkas, Waltz, and Berceuse, which also influenced the early work of Manuel de Falla. We will also hear Falla's perfect impressionism in "Four Spanish Pieces" and Isaac Albéniz's expansive suite "Iberia."

The work of the immortal "poet of the piano" Fryderyk Chopin, combined with piano pieces by Spanish composers from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, will be performed at a recital by leading Spanish pianist Javier Perianes.
Thanks to his sense of bold harmonies, exceptional melodic gift, and brilliant piano technique, Chopin's compositions have become some of the most important works in piano literature and continue to occupy a prominent place in the repertoire of top pianists to this day. From Chopin's oeuvre, Javier Perianes has chosen for his concert the dreamy Nocturne in D flat major from 1836, the intimate Mazurka in A minor from 1830–1831, the charming Mazurka in G major from 1835, the early melancholic Waltz in B minor from 1829, and Berceuse, a gentle lullaby from 1843–1844. Chopin's compositions had a significant influence on the early piano works of Spanish composer Manuel de Falla, and listeners will certainly find the comparison inspiring. His early Nocturne from 1896, the Mazurka in C minor, written three years later, or Vals-Capricho and Canción, both from 1900. Over the years, Falla matured from Romanticism to a distinctive form of Impressionism enriched with the color of Spanish folk music, as represented by the Four Spanish Pieces from 1906–1908. Isaac Albéniz's large-scale piano suite Iberia also dates from around the same time.
