Jan Steyer
Jan Steyer is a Czech conductor, choirmaster and organist. He completed conducting and choirmaster studies, as well as playing the organ, first at the Prague Conservatory and then at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts.
He gained his first experience as a choirmaster while leading the vocal-instrumental ensemble Collegium Carmina Antiqua, which specialized in the interpretation of Renaissance and Baroque music and was formed by Steyer's classmates from the conservatory. He then worked as choirmaster of the Prague Girls' Choir at the Czech Technical University. Since 2000, he has been the choirmaster of the ČVUT Choir, and together with Jiří Petrdlík, he is the choirmaster and accompanist of the Prague Mixed Choir.
As a guest conductor or choirmaster, he cooperates with many amateur and professional musical ensembles in the Czech Republic and abroad.
He holds the position of organist at Charles University and also performs as an organist with the Czech Philharmonic. Pedagogically, he worked as a music lecturer at New York University for a long time (teaching vocal ensembles, teaching organ playing) and is regularly invited to various master music courses, where he teaches organ improvisation and conducting. He also teaches conducting as part of the Choir Conducting course at the Faculty of Education at Charles University.
